Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning ordinances, and other relevant regulations.
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Provide guidance and education to builders, architects, and the public on building codes and regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of inspections and actions taken.
  • Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to ensure compliance with city regulations.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
  • Four years of full-time paid experience in building trades, enforcing building codes, or experience with the public interpreting building codes required.
  • Certification as a Commercial Building Inspector and/or Residential Building Inspector by the International Code Council required within one year of appointment.
  • Valid California Class C Driver License required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of California State Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical Codes, State housing laws, zoning ordinances, and State and County health codes.
  • Ability to perform building inspections with speed and accuracy, read and comprehend building construction plans, specifications, and building codes, and verify compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions

The position requires frequent travel to various job sites, lifting and/or moving up to 35 pounds, and standing, walking, crawling, stooping, and climbing ladders to perform adequate inspections.

Selection Process

The selection process may include application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test, and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process.
