Our team consistently achieves remarkable advancements in the field.The Principal Power Electronics Engineer will spearhead collaboration with global Engineering and Operations teams to conceptualize, construct, and validate innovative power delivery solutions utilizing cutting-edge techniques.
Your responsibilities will encompass topology selection, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, and the development and execution of test plans for power electronics circuitry.
You will undertake the following key responsibilities:- Lead a small to medium-sized team of electrical engineers in the design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of power electronics across various projects.
- Simulate, design, and validate multiple AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC topologies.
- Independently draft test requests for the Milwaukee Test Laboratory based on established testing protocols and previous examples.
- Create comprehensive design documentation, including theory of operation, schematics, layouts, bills of materials, test plans, and test reports.
- Engage with suppliers to establish part/product specifications that meet performance criteria while adhering to process capabilities.
Additionally, you will mentor and guide the team in engineering best practices, including task management, Gantt charts, root cause analysis, circuit/PCB design, and PCBA manufacturing.
You will champion technology investigations, including system requirements, architectural definitions, and strategies for reusability.Maintain a strong awareness of competitive offerings, product strategies, and market conditions to inform a best-in-class roadmap.
You will effectively communicate and motivate team members across diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds, framing business risks and opportunities for senior leadership.Drive urgency in project timelines and accountability for achieving key project metrics aligned with organizational needs.
Ensure your team has the necessary time and resources to succeed by developing and managing comprehensive project roadmaps and resource plans.Formulate strategies to evaluate and assess emerging technologies that align with Milwaukee Tool's product initiatives and development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in power electronics design, including switch mode power supply topologies, inverters, and semiconductor component selection.
- 2+ years of leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of EMI/EMC concepts, including source identification, transmission paths, and mitigation techniques.
- Hands-on experience with a proven track record of translating designs/concepts into production.
- In-depth knowledge of magnetic circuit design, including transformer design, gapped energy storage devices, and filtering components.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills in analog circuit design, with a systematic approach to driving design trade-off discussions.
- Ability to conduct root cause failure analysis after exploring all obvious solutions.
- Self-motivated, organized, efficient, and process-oriented with a strong work ethic.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, exercising independent judgment and performing well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international).
