Radiology Assistant

About the Role:
The Radiology Assistant works under the direction of the department Director, Manager, Supervisor, and/or team lead. This position assists the technologists or radiologist with patient flow and procedures. The Radiology Assistant maintains knowledge of designated procedures and protocols to assist the technologist or radiologist with the procedure, including patient preparation. They are able to explain the procedures being performed to the patient and obtain clinical information from the patient or referring physician for the scheduled procedure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists the technical staff with patient flow and procedures.
- Maintains knowledge of designated procedure and protocols to assist the technologist or radiologist with the procedure including patient preparation.
- Able to explain the procedures being performed to the patient.
- Obtain clinical information from the patient or referring physician for the scheduled procedure.
- Schedules procedures per protocol.
- Prepares trays and appropriate forms for procedures.
- Knows the application and location of the supply items in the department.
- Monitors supply stock and order supplies for procedures.
- Use of Radiology system, equipment and patient handling.
- Understands and applies coordination skills to locate patient information and images using all current systems.
Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- Hospital, radiology, and/or patient care experience required.
- Familiarity with radiology and or medical terminology required.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Proficient with creating and manipulating Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant or currently enrolled in a radiology technologist program preferred.
- Prior healthcare experience preferred, preferably within the radiology field.
- Typing skills, office routine familiarity, and strong knowledge of medical and radiology terminology strongly preferred.
