Position Overview

The University of California-Davis is seeking a highly qualified Clinical Toxicology Professor to join our team in the California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) and Department of Molecular Biosciences, School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM). The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnostic toxicology throughout the four laboratories that comprise CAHFS, with a focus on the diagnosis of toxicoses affecting the livestock and poultry industries, animal production and food from animal sources as well as wildlife and companion animals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in veterinary toxicology, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with veterinarians, producers, and government agencies. They will also have a client-focused, service-oriented approach to diagnostics and the ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and improvement of diagnostic procedures, as well as engage in scholarly activities such as publication of results in peer-reviewed publications. They will also have clinical and limited didactic teaching responsibilities to veterinary students, graduate students, and residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic toxicology throughout the four laboratories that comprise CAHFS
  • Diagnosis of toxicoses affecting the livestock and poultry industries, animal production and food from animal sources as well as wildlife and companion animals
  • Development and improvement of diagnostic procedures
  • Scholarly activities, including publication of results in peer-reviewed publications
  • Clinical and limited didactic teaching responsibilities to veterinary students, graduate students, and residents

Requirements:

  • DVM or equivalent degree required
  • Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology required
  • Advanced degree in toxicology or closely related field preferred
  • Clinical experience and competence in veterinary toxicology preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching desired
  • Interest in collaboration in basic toxicology research desired
