Role Summary

The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational security posture of information systems. This position requires close collaboration with the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and Information Security Officer (ISO). The ISSO is expected to possess in-depth knowledge and expertise in managing the security aspects of information systems, often overseeing daily security operations. Responsibilities encompass physical and environmental security, personnel security, incident response, and security training and awareness.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the ISSM in fulfilling their responsibilities.
• Prepare, review, and update security authorization packages.
• Ensure established procedures are followed for clearing, sanitizing, and disposing of hardware and media.
• Inform the ISSM of any changes that may impact the security authorization of information systems.
• Conduct regular reviews of information systems to verify compliance with security authorization standards.
• Coordinate any modifications to hardware, software, or firmware with the ISSM and Authorizing Official (AO) prior to implementation.
• Oversee system recovery processes to guarantee that security features and procedures are restored and functioning correctly.
• Maintain current and accessible security documentation for authorized personnel.
• Collect, review, and document audit records, including any anomalies.
• Participate in required technical and security training relevant to assigned duties.
• Execute cybersecurity self-inspections, providing security coordination and reviewing system assessment plans.
• Identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities and assist in implementing countermeasures.
• Prepare reports detailing the status of security measures applied to computer systems.
• Perform ISSO duties in support of both internal and external clients.
• Conduct continuous monitoring activities for security authorization boundaries.
• Assist Department of Defense and contractor organizations with assessment and authorization efforts.

Qualifications

Experience:
• 5 - 7 years of relevant experience.
• Previous roles in System Administration, Network Administration, or as an ISSO are preferred.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4 years).
Certifications:
• Must fulfill position and certification requirements as outlined in DoD Directive M for Information Assurance Technician Level II or Information Assurance Manager II within 6 months of hire.
Security Clearance:
• Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility.
• Eligibility for access to Special Access Program Information.
• Willingness to undergo a Counterintelligence polygraph.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
