Position Overview:
The Academic Support Specialist for the Nursing Program is responsible for assisting the Director of Curriculum and Academic Affairs in delivering outstanding student support services. This role focuses on enhancing student retention, satisfaction, and successful degree completion.

Key Responsibilities:
This position will provide exemplary academic advising to pre-nursing students within the School of Professional Advancement (SoPA), aiming to promote effective student retention and facilitate timely progression into the nursing program.

The specialist will remain informed about all relevant policies, academic procedures, and best practices applicable to SoPA and Nursing Program advisors. Additionally, they will spearhead innovative initiatives that prioritize proactive advising and an engaging orientation experience for nursing students, while also offering continuous training and support to the Student Success Coach associated with the Nursing Program.

Monitoring and Guidance:
The role includes comprehensive oversight of student academic performance, delivering professional guidance, consultation, and expertise related to academic services and associated technologies. The specialist will lead and manage academic advising processes to ensure optimal student outcomes.

Qualifications:
• In-depth understanding of federal regulations, including the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as they pertain to student accommodations.
• Proficient in computer applications, particularly within the Microsoft Office Suite, and capable of learning specific software essential for academic advising.
• Experience working with student databases and other information technology tools necessary for fulfilling daily responsibilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly establish rapport through various communication channels.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on effective engagement with a diverse audience, emphasizing active listening and constructive feedback.
• Ability to inspire and motivate students towards their academic goals.
• Knowledge of student risk factors, with the capability to assess situations and provide detailed reports during team discussions.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to formulate action plans within established guidelines.
• Exceptional organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy in handling information.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and dependable, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Effective time management skills to balance multiple responsibilities.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of work.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for special events as required.
• A Bachelor's Degree in education, social sciences, counseling, or a related field, along with two years of directly relevant experience.
• A Master's Degree is preferred.
• Professional experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Banner and Salesforce systems is a plus.
