Key Responsibilities

A Mortgage Lending Specialist plays a crucial role in assessing, approving, and managing a diverse range of mortgage, real estate, construction, and consumer loan products for clients. This position focuses on fostering strong client relationships while delivering exceptional service. The Mortgage Lending Specialist guides clients through various loan options and credit solutions, ensuring they understand the terms and conditions associated with these services.

This role requires staying informed about relevant government and third-party programs that may benefit clients' borrowing needs, complementing the bank's offerings. Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting and meticulously reviewing applicant financial documents, credit histories, and collateral to evaluate financial standing.
  • Analyzing and approving loans within established limits or referring complex cases to management for further consideration.
  • Collaborating with Loan Processors during the underwriting phase to ensure a smooth loan process.
  • Working closely with the bank's Loan Support team and external partners, such as attorneys and insurance companies, to meet deadlines.
  • Utilizing a sales-oriented approach to identify prospects and promote loans and other banking products.

(This position is suitable for mid- to experienced-level candidates.)

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in mortgage lending or underwriting at a financial institution.
  • Strong ties to the local community.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to expand personal portfolio and branch business.
  • Excellent listening skills to efficiently process customer requests.
  • Ability to connect community members and clients with appropriate bank resources and services.
  • Proficient in managing multiple accounts and clients simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills to address customer inquiries professionally.
  • Commitment to a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Adherence to all established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Attention to detail and a strong focus on compliance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and interest in banking practices and the evolving financial landscape.
  • Must reside within a 25-mile radius of the designated office or be willing to relocate.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Preferred Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in mortgage or consumer loan processing.
  • Familiarity with Jack Henry core systems.
  • Experience with Byte and Laser Pro loan systems.
  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Additional Information

  • This is a full-time, at-will position, typically requiring 40 hours per week. Loan officers may work Saturdays on a rotating schedule, with compensatory time off provided during the week.
  • Standard working hours are 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and 8 AM to 11 AM on Saturdays.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful background and credit checks.
