This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments.
Applicants must fulfill specific individual eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility duration (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office following a comprehensive review of the EDRP application.
Key Responsibilities:VA provides a comprehensive total rewards package.
VHA Physician Total Rewards:
- Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized for Highly Qualified Candidates
- Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Up to $200,000 over a 5-year period
Compensation:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increments.
Paid Time Off:
50-55 days of paid time off annually (including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and potentially 5 days for CME).

Licensure:

Continuing Medical Education (CME):
Potential reimbursement of $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).
Malpractice Coverage:
Complimentary liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Contractual Information:
No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.
Clinical Duties:
- Conduct and document history and physical examinations, and record data from clinic visits.
- Evaluate, consult, develop diagnoses, and manage the primary care panel of assigned patients.
- Enter progress notes in the computerized medical record and complete workload documentation promptly.
- Provide medical care for acute and chronic conditions, along with preventive care for male and female veterans.
- Order diagnostic tests, medications, and laboratory tests as medically necessary for each patient.
- Ensure timely follow-up on results and patient inquiries, including completion of view alerts and secure messages.
- Determine medical assessments and develop treatment plans according to accepted protocols.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with approved formulary and federal/state laws.
- Educate patients on medical conditions and recommended treatments, covering topics such as nutritional counseling, smoking cessation, immunizations, health screenings, and disease management.
- Consult with other specialties as appropriate based on service agreements.
- Provide care for female patients as required, both on an ad hoc basis and possibly as a Women's Health Designated Provider.
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (subject to change based on agency needs).
Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy.
- All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is also a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration HCP.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional criteria listed in the job announcement.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Physical Requirements:
Light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), use of fingers, walking, standing, and ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing aids are permitted.
