About the Unit
The Medical Surgical Unit is a 38-bed facility dedicated to providing care for a diverse range of medical, surgical, and chronically ill patients. This unit specializes in managing conditions such as diabetes (including insulin drips) and renal failure (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis). We are equipped to accommodate patients requiring telemetry and oximetry monitoring.
The patient-to-nurse ratio is adjusted according to patient acuity, ensuring optimal care delivery.
Our nursing staff collaborates with academic institutions to support student nurses through mentorship, guidance, and exemplary role modeling.
Our mission is to deliver the highest quality healthcare services efficiently, effectively, and compassionately, while also welcoming the involvement of patients' families.
Recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a high-performing facility for various procedures and conditions, Corewell Health has also achieved Magnet designation for nursing excellence. Our hospital has evolved over the years into a Level II trauma center, serving the community since its inception.
Scope of WorkThe Registered Nurse (RN), operating under the ANA scope of practice, employs the nursing process framework to provide professional nursing care. This includes incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients.
The RN delivers quality patient care under the supervision of the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and procedures, while recognizing the influence of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on health outcomes.
The RN collaborates with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the care plan, developing educational strategies and documenting learning outcomes appropriately in the health record.
