The Anesthesia Technician plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care by providing essential support to the anesthesia clinician during surgical procedures.
As a member of the perioperative team, the Anesthesia Technician collaborates with the circulating RN and the perioperative team to ensure a safe and optimal patient perioperative experience.
Key Responsibilities- Prepares and organizes equipment and supplies for scheduled and emergent cases in anesthetizing locations.
- Reviews present and future surgical schedules to ensure anesthesia staff have the essential equipment and supplies necessary for routine and challenging cases.
- Transports and sets up equipment needed for procedures, including laryngoscope blades, monitors, EKG cables, ETCO2 lines, pulse oximetry cables, temperature cables, and oxygen tanks/tubing.
- Assures equipment is decontaminated and in good working condition before each procedure.
- Follows department procedures for proper procurement and handling of non-controlled medications, I.V. fluids, contrast media, and irrigating fluids in the surgical services area.
- Performs thorough, prompt room turnover between procedures, including cleaning and disinfection, restocking of anesthesia supplies, and cleaning/storing of anesthesia equipment and instrumentation as needed.
- Demonstrates proficiency with equipment point-of-use care and transport, including initial bedside decontamination of TEE probe and bronchoscope.
- Calibrates and troubleshoots minor malfunctions of anesthesia equipment. Removes and reports all damaged or unsafe equipment.
- Responds promptly to on-call situations as scheduled.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- One year's experience as an Anesthesia Tech required.
- Computer experience preferred.
The Anesthesia Technician must maintain a mature, professional manner and demonstrate sound judgment when dealing with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and families, as well as all other hospital personnel.
