PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The role involves executing electrical installations and repairs across various sites managed by the Authority. The position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, though not all tasks listed may be performed.

SUPERVISION STRUCTURE:

Operates under the direct oversight of the Unit Supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May oversee entry-level personnel as needed.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, repairs, and tests electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, and associated equipment for industrial applications.
  • Conducts electrically related tasks as specified by work orders.
  • Inspects and diagnoses electrical systems and equipment using testing instruments.
  • Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Installs new or replacement electrical systems and fixtures.
  • Selects and acquires necessary materials and tools following established protocols.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant building and electrical codes while maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Adheres to established safety and emergency response procedures set forth by the Authority.
  • Operates vehicles to transport materials and equipment to various job sites.
  • Trains colleagues and junior staff as required.
  • Documents and reports inspection results and work completed in the appropriate databases.
  • Assists other trades in their tasks as needed.
  • Performs light maintenance tasks independently or collaboratively, including:
  • Routine testing, lockout/tagout procedures, and operation of process equipment.
  • Installation and retrofitting of new equipment related to plant systems.
  • With appropriate training, sets up access equipment and utilizes tools for installation and removal of equipment.
  • Operates portable equipment to prepare work areas.
  • Installs safety measures as necessary.
  • Clears snow from work areas to facilitate task completion.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Encourages and engages in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Successful completion of a certified journey-level electrician apprenticeship or a similar formal training program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Familiarity with Massachusetts electrical codes and regulations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of pumps, compressors, generators, and related electrical equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and safety protocols in the electrical trade.
  • Ability to diagnose issues and recommend appropriate repairs or replacements.
  • Proficient in using tools and equipment relevant to the electrical field.
  • Ability to handle hazardous materials and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of interpreting wiring diagrams, blueprints, and vendor instructions.
  • Ability to learn and apply maintenance processes as required by maintenance management programs.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic mathematical and scientific skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician's license.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Completion of competency-based training related to the essential duties outlined above.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Motor vehicles, power tools, hand tools, communication devices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements for this position include the ability to use hands for handling tools and equipment, frequent bending and kneeling, and the capability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds regularly and over 100 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees may work in various weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and may be exposed to hazardous materials and noise levels that can be loud. The work environment may also include occasional exposure to wet conditions and risk of electrical shock.
