Computed Tomography Technologist

We are seeking a skilled Computed Tomography Technologist to join our team in the Computed Tomography department.
This part-time (0.9 FTE) position will work Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 11:00pm, including holidays and on-call. The position includes an evening shift differential of $5.00 an hour.
A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates.
Under the direction of the area supervisor, the Computed Tomography Technologist will perform patient care and technical functions to ensure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients.
The technologist will perform Computed Tomography exams under the order of a licensed medical practitioner, following ALARA principles and modifying radiation dose for individual patient exams in accordance with established age/weight specific protocols.
The technologist will review and verify CT exam orders, radiologist's protocol instructions, and patient identification in accordance with hospital policy to ensure correct exams are performed on the correct patients.
The technologist will assess patient risk via patient interviews and chart review, alerting nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedures.
The technologist will ensure patient preparation and radiologist-ordered protocols for pre-medications have been completed, assessing patient need for care following contrast administration and arranging renal function tests and follow-up according to radiologist protocol.
The technologist will provide education to patients and family members, assessing understanding, and provide for the physical and psychological needs of patients during CT exams, including monitoring of patient oxygen saturation levels when caring for patients with orders for continuous O2 sat monitoring.
The technologist will perform venipuncture for contrast administration, evaluate patency of IV access, administer saline flush per protocol pre/post IV contrast administration, and perform Point-of-Care lab tests for evaluating renal function prior to contrast administration.
The technologist will prepare and administer oral and/or IV contrast per department protocols as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, ensuring personnel caring for patients follow safety procedures, and document clinical and required regulatory information in patient electronic charts.
The technologist will initiate response to complications and emergencies arising during exams, requesting assistance from nurses, providers, and other personnel as needed.
The technologist will demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and effects of disease processes, evaluating images, recognizing normal vs. abnormal anatomy, and notifying the appropriate Radiologist as needed.
The technologist will handle and secure medications and equipment in accordance with hospital policies, utilizing the image management system to acquire, format, manipulate, and archive images to the PACS system.
The technologist will assist physicians and residents as required with CT-Guided exams/procedures using aseptic technique as needed, and assist patients with completing informed consent forms after provider discussion.
The technologist will implement downtime procedures when computer systems or equipment fail, maintaining equipment and room in proper working condition, and trouble-shooting malfunctioning equipment.
The technologist will perform quality control procedures, demonstrating and promoting a healthy work environment and good teamwork, making suggestions for improvements, and demonstrating and promoting patient and family-centered care behaviors.
The technologist will assist in organizing work flow utilizing available staff and rooms, assisting performing exams identified for approved IRB research, and performing various clerical duties and completing additional duties/projects as assigned.
The technologist will instruct new staff and students in CT procedures and techniques, perform competency evaluations for new CT personnel, and assist with education and training of medical staff.
The technologist will provide peer feedback for staff performance evaluations and assist in coordinating and participating in departmental continuing education in-services.
Requirements include completion of a formal educational Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT, current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and maintenance of minimum CEU credits as mandated by the ARRT.
Possession of current CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of employment is also required.
Possession of CT Certification (ARRT) is preferred, but individuals without CT Certification will be considered for a CT Tech I position and will need to obtain their CT certification within 36 months of hire.
