Automation Engineer for Power Substations

We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join our team at Leidos in Framingham, MA. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for designing and implementing relay settings and automation projects for high-voltage electrical utility substations.

About the Role

This is a challenging opportunity for a mid-level or senior engineer with a strong background in power system engineering and experience with communication protocols. You will work closely with design engineers, clients, and other staff members to deliver innovative solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Solve complex substation engineering problems using advanced technical skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to review and develop quality control procedures.
  • Work directly with clients and other stakeholders to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Configure IEDs and data concentrators for substation automation devices from 4.16kV through 500kV.
  • Implement communication protocols for Ethernet and serial communications in substations.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with (2+ years) of relevant experience for mid-level positions.
  • A B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with (4+ years) of relevant experience for senior-level positions.
  • Experience with one- and three-line diagrams for substations, communication devices HMI, SCADA, and RTU, and implementation of different communication protocols (e.g., DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850 MMS and GOOSE).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
