Mental Health Specialist

Responsibilities include:
* Serves as a medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
* Completes admission medical assessments, including history and physical examinations, mental status examination, and entering admission orders.
* Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
* Monitors patients' progress, including laboratory values and special procedures, with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
* Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
* Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioners to provide DSM-5 diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
Additional responsibilities include providing coverage to the medical clinic and ensuring the admission process is completed. The successful candidate will also be responsible for prescribing medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices, assessing and addressing medication side-effects, and reporting adverse drug reactions.
Requirements include ensuring timely and quality documentation in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
