Job Summary

Cardinal Services of Indiana is seeking a skilled Recreational Therapist to join our team. As a Recreational Therapist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing recreational therapy programs that promote physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and leisure well-being for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain recreational therapy programs that align with agency goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with BDDS Service Definitions & Requirements, focusing on reimbursable activities, service standards, and documentation.
  • Assess and address the recreational therapy needs of assigned individuals, utilizing community-based interventions to enhance their well-being.
  • Foster health and wellness while minimizing activity limitations due to illness or disability.
  • Integrate clients' interests and involve their families and communities to ensure meaningful therapy.
  • Provide advocacy and support for individuals, families, and guardians as appropriate.
  • Ensure satisfaction among all stakeholders, including clients, families, guardians, physicians, funding sources, and colleagues.
  • Stay informed on innovative recreational therapy strategies and techniques.
Requirements
  • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks including decision-making, analysis, and physical activities.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Competence in using computers for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and use assistive devices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) required; certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) preferred.
  • One year of experience in therapeutic recreation is preferred.
