Job Overview

The Animal Care League is seeking a skilled Animal Care Manager to lead our animal care team in providing exceptional care and support to animals in our shelter. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a passion for animal welfare.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the animal care team in providing daily care and husbandry to cats, dogs, and rabbits, including cleaning, feeding, and administering medications.
  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure staff are equipped to provide high-quality animal care.
  • Work closely with the Operations Director to build and maintain a positive work environment and promote teamwork among staff.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Manager to onboard, train, and retain volunteers who support animal care activities.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in animal care or husbandry in a shelter or boarding environment.
  • Direct supervisory experience, with a proven track record of leading teams and promoting staff development.
  • Strong understanding of basic animal behavior and needs, as well as knowledge of shelter operations and management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
