Position Overview
As a vital member of JBS USA, the Livestock Handling Quality Assurance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the humane treatment of animals throughout our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all humane handling Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including scheduling, unloading, and training.
- Assist with the handling of non-ambulatory animals and oversee the stunning process.
- Conduct sensibility checks at the bleed rail and monitor hog movement to ensure adherence to SOPs.
- Audit and document humane handling practices, including remote video auditing.
- Verify that livestock truck drivers are certified in Transportation Quality Assurance (TQA) and provide necessary training.
- Support training initiatives related to humane handling, captive bolt usage, and electrical prod operation.
- Maintain effective communication with USDA/FSIS regarding humane handling matters.
- Monitor transportation conditions to ensure proper animal welfare during transit.
- Identify visible defects in animals that may affect yield or quality and relay this information to Procurement.
- Assist in emergency response situations as needed.
- Implement the four elements of the Systematic Approach during each shift.
- Participate in the facility's Animal Welfare Team.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Humane Handling Manager.
- Attend meetings and document notes clearly.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the livestock industry is advantageous.
- Basic mathematical and analytical skills are required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
- Organizational skills are essential.
- Capability to handle live hogs in accordance with humane handling guidelines.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Team-oriented mindset.
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull heavy weights as necessary.
- Flexibility to rotate between different shifts.
- Bilingual skills are preferred but not mandatory.
