Job Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled and dedicated individual to perform a wide range of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, and hazardous material operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, and hazardous material operations.
  • Work cooperatively with other NBCFR employees, members, and the public.
  • Work at heights greater than ten (10) feet.
  • Perform all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hose, carrying and setting up ladders, and extinguishing fires.
  • Respond to hazardous material incidents.
  • Communicate with customers, clients, or the public face-to-face, and/or one on one settings, via email, and via telephone.
  • Assist in disaster response efforts.
  • Tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing job duties.
  • Work for extended periods of time requiring sustained physical activity and intense concentration.
  • Demonstrate acuity and ability to use sense of sight and hearing to help determine the nature of an emergency and make operational decisions.
  • Rescue persons trapped in vehicles, burning buildings, and other places.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Observe and follow safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety apparel and devices during the course and scope of job-related duties.
  • Inspect equipment and supplies daily to ensure that all emergencies can be handled; restock supplies.
  • Learn job-related material through structured lecture and reading, and through verbal instruction and observation.
  • Attend and complete all required training.
  • Maintain required certification.
  • Ability to lift and carry 120 lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must hold current certifications as a Basic Firefighter by Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).
  • Must hold current certifications as an EMT-B or higher by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS).
  • Must have a valid, minimum of a Class "B" Texas driver's license or must be able to obtain during probationary period.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and fluently speak English.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass the Physical Agility Test ("PAT").
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must pass a medical exam and drug screen test.
  • Must complete a written exam on Fire Fighting 101 and EMT.
  • Must be willing to work 48-hour shifts (48/96).
Benefits
  • Starting Wage: Probationary FF/EMT-B $16.73/hr ($51,846.27 annually), this rate does not include additional Overtime.
  • Upon successful completion of a Six (6) month probationary period, the rate increases to $17.73/hr ($54,954.27 annually).
  • Health Benefits:
    • Medical- Employer pays 100% for Employee; 80% for Family.
    • Vision- Employer pays 100% for Employee.
    • Dental Insurance is available.
  • Short Term and Long-Term Disability: Employer pays 100%.
  • Life Insurance: Employer pays 100%.
  • Retirement plan through Texas County & District Retirement System (TCDRS) with an annual compound interest rate of 7%- Employer match 100% at 5% Employee contributions, with 10-year vesting.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): 10 Shifts, accrued at 9.24 hours per pay period.
