Position Summary:
The Pharmacist plays a crucial role in assessing, managing, and optimizing medication therapies for patients of all ages, addressing various medical conditions in both outpatient and emergency settings. Qualified practitioners may have independent prescriptive authority in accordance with contractual regulations. The Pharmacist will provide essential medication information to all healthcare providers and will lead the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, along with participating in other relevant healthcare and administrative committees as directed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and update departmental policies regarding medication procurement, storage, distribution, and usage to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Oversee monthly audits of medications in line with Performance Work Statement (PWS) requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for the procurement, storage, distribution, and use of all medications, including controlled substances.
- Conduct inspections of medication stock and usage outside the pharmacy as per departmental guidelines.
- Report any regulatory non-compliance issues to the CMO promptly.
- Manage medication ordering processes to ensure optimal stock levels while adhering to budget constraints.
- Facilitate the return of expired medications to maximize credit value.
- Perform medication reconciliation during patient entry and discharge from acute care settings.
- Engage in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives as required.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary hospital committees as assigned.
- Contribute to administrative projects as delegated by hospital leadership.
Qualifications:
- Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as a practicing pharmacist.
- Education: Must possess a current license to practice as a pharmacist in any U.S. jurisdiction, along with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharm). A DEA License and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are also required.
Physical Requirements:
Work is typically performed in an office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting and standing, with occasional bending and lifting of up to 15 lbs.
Additional Qualifications:
Possession of a Common Access Card (CAC) may be necessary, or the ability to obtain one. Proficiency in English is essential for effective communication. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must be able to obtain necessary clearances.
Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation range for this position is between $180,000 and $190,000, based on various factors including experience and skills. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with a 401k plan, paid time off, and an annual bonus.
