Control Systems Engineer

Job Overview:
As a key member of our multidisciplinary project teams, the selected candidate will provide essential electrical engineering expertise. This role will focus on the integration of process, mechanical, and control specifications into comprehensive electrical systems.
Key responsibilities include performing calculations and analyses, developing detailed designs, preparing drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, selecting appropriate equipment, and drafting proposals and reports. Effective communication with clients will also be a crucial aspect of this position.
Project assignments will primarily involve power and control systems for various industrial sectors, including energy production facilities, oil refineries, mining operations, and municipal water and wastewater treatment plants. Occasional travel for short-term assignments may be required.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power or control systems.
- 0 to 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic team environment that promotes self-initiative.
- Flexibility in work style and a readiness to adjust personal schedules to meet project deadlines and client needs.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship from Barr Engineering Company, now or in the future.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a design role on projects relevant to the responsibilities outlined above within a consulting engineering or industrial setting.
- Familiarity with industrial manufacturing processes, including energy production, petroleum refining, mining, or chemical production.
- Knowledge of power distribution design and maintenance.
- Experience with PLC configuration and programming, particularly with Allen Bradley and Schneider Electric systems.
- Competence in protective device coordination, short-circuit studies, and arc flash analyses using software such as SKM and ETAP.
- Understanding of motor control, lighting design, grounding, conduit planning, and sizing of electrical cables and equipment.
- Proven skills in project or task management.
- Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, laws, and regulations for project assignments.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain it within one year, with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Note:
Candidates must be prepared to work in environments that may include challenging terrain typical of construction sites and facilities with limited accessibility and moving machinery. Safety training will be provided.
