Position Overview
The role involves delivering professional athletic training services tailored for high school sports programs, under the guidance of a school physician or via written referral from a licensed medical professional, and under the general oversight of the Athletic Director. The incumbent will adhere to the Standards of Practice Code of Ethics established by the National Athletic Trainers Association, in compliance with New York State Athletic Trainers licensing regulations. The Athletic Trainer will perform related duties as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and sustain an effective athletic training program for student athletes.
• Administer First Aid and conduct injury assessments, treatments, rehabilitation, and reconditioning for student-athletes.
• Facilitate appropriate referrals to physicians as needed.
• Keep precise records of injuries and treatments related to sports.
• Conduct baseline concussion assessments for high school and modified athletes.
• Provide coverage during home athletic events and practices throughout the academic year.
• Offer support during away games for varsity football and other sports during playoff seasons.
• Maintain open communication with the school physician regarding health care and recommended treatments for athletic injuries.
• Collaborate with coaches on the care and treatment of student-athletes.
• Oversee the management and procurement of supplies and equipment for the athletic training facility.
• Ensure each team is equipped with the necessary medical supplies.
• Assist coaching staff in the implementation and evaluation of sport-specific conditioning programs.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Must possess and maintain licensure in accordance with the New York State Department of Education as an Athletic Trainer.
Special Requirements:
Maintain current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.
Additional Requirement:
In certain agencies, possession and maintenance of an appropriate class Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be necessary.
Special Requirement for School Districts/BOCES:
In compliance with regulations from the Commissioner of Education, individuals employed in positions involving direct contact with students must obtain a clearance for employment from the State Education Department.
Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the Athletic Director.
