Job Summary

Alamance Community College is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach horticulture courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, assessing student learning outcomes, and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction
    • Teach horticulture courses to students in a variety of formats, including day, evening, and hybrid classes.
    • Develop and implement hands-on projects to reinforce course objectives.
    • Provide effective instruction to students, using a variety of teaching methods and technologies.
  • Student Support
    • Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours and providing additional resources.
    • Respond to student inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Course Management
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other important data.
    • Submit reports and evaluations as required by the college.
  • Professional Development
    • Stay current with developments in the field of horticulture and incorporate best practices into teaching and course design.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • Associate's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution in Agricultural Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Education, or a related field.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 2 years work experience in an arboriculture-related job, such as climber or plant health care specialist.
  • Skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Computer literacy and proficiency in educational technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching Experience
    • 2 years of higher education teaching experience.
  • Certifications
    • NC Pesticide License.
