POSITION: SPED Paraprofessional
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (verification required).
- Associate's Degree or 60 credit hours or Paraprofessional Certification preferred.
- Experience working with students on an individual basis, particularly those with sensory, cognitive, emotional, or physical challenges.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively.
- Positive interpersonal skills with students, staff, and the public.
- Proficient in word processing on both MAC and PC platforms.
- Prior experience with children with disabilities is advantageous.
- Must have or be able to obtain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Capable of lifting, positioning, and transferring students safely, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds.
- Responsible for maintaining confidentiality, personal organization, and timely submission of all required documentation.
Under the guidance of a special education teacher, provide essential instructional support and assistance to students with disabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the teacher in executing the special education instructional plan under direct or indirect supervision.
- Engage with students individually and in small groups.
- Prepare and gather materials and resources necessary for special education instruction.
- Monitor student activities as assigned (in classroom, on playground, on transportation).
- Adhere to the teacher's directions to maintain a consistent discipline approach for students.
- Observe, monitor, and document student behavior.
- Keep instructional staff informed of any specific needs or issues concerning individual students.
- Utilize various equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, and assistive technology.
- Participate in professional development training, faculty meetings, and special events as required.
- Understand and implement safety precautions as outlined in safety data sheets.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors, including special education teachers, therapists, and administrators.
- Assist in positioning and lifting students with physical impairments.
- Support self-care skills (e.g., eating, toileting, recreation).
- Implement effective behavioral strategies.
- Work with children with limited speech, hearing, physical, and cognitive abilities.
- Employ appropriate non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
- Utilize assistive technology and basic sign language as necessary.
- Collaborate with general education teachers in inclusive settings.
- Contribute to the team by completing additional assigned tasks.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- In-service training prior to the start of the school year.
Ability to read and interpret documents in English, as well as the capability to write routine correspondence in English. Proficient in speaking effectively in English before groups of customers or employees.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of situations and issues. Capable of interpreting various instructions provided in written and verbal forms.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be assessed by the classroom teacher and reviewed by the Principal.
SUPERVISION:
Supervised by the classroom teacher.
GRADE / SALARY SCHEDULE / LENGTH OF WORK YEAR:
Grade B $16.20-$20.05 (DOE)
