Role Summary:
The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the Operating Room, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide both direct and indirect patient care. This position is essential in fostering a professional, compassionate, and responsive healthcare environment for patients, physicians, and colleagues.
The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in biological, physiological, behavioral, and social sciences, acquired through a recognized Surgical Technologist training program. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for identifying patient needs and implementing appropriate interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness of surgical areas, including light fixtures and equipment.
- Verify and prepare surgical supplies and instruments as per established protocols.
- Scrub for assigned surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile environment.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during operations.
- Utilize surgical supplies and sutures efficiently.
- Handle specimens with precision and care.
- Prepare patients for surgery by ensuring proper hygiene.
- Maintain and care for surgical instruments and equipment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and maintenance of surgical tools.
- Restock and clean operating rooms post-procedure.
- Assist in updating surgical preference cards.
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and safety protocols.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the department.
- Act as a clinical resource for staff, students, and volunteers, promoting teamwork for optimal patient care.
- Ensure patient safety at all times.

Qualifications:
- Current certification as a surgical technologist
- BLS certification (AHA)
- ACLS certification preferred
- Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program - REQUIRED
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an OB Technician in an acute care setting.
- Experience in a hospital environment is essential.
