The successful candidate will also oversee the coordination of external contractors and vendors to ensure optimal tree care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tree Care and Maintenance: Engage in labor-intensive duties to uphold a clean and organized campus environment. Proactively assess tree conditions and apply best practices in arboriculture.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate various machinery, including lawn mowers, wood chippers, and aerial lifts, while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Tree Inventory Management: Collaborate with consultants to maintain and update tree data and condition reports, informing maintenance activities.
  • Community Engagement: Disseminate arboretum information and support programming and events that promote the arboretum to the university community.

COMMUNICATION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE

This position requires effective interaction with students, faculty, and staff, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors. The Grounds Worker II will communicate essential arboretum information and respond to inquiries, fostering a collaborative environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role involves working outdoors in various conditions, including extreme weather. Physical demands include lifting heavy loads, climbing, and performing strenuous activities over extended periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in tree care preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Arborist is mandatory.
  • Forklift and aerial lift certifications are required.

This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the aesthetic and environmental quality of the campus, ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for all.
