Position Overview:

The Healthcare Nursing Specialist is tasked with applying their expertise in nursing within the designated scope of practice. This role operates under the guidance of management and collaborates effectively with all staff levels. The specialist provides direct patient care during assigned hours, engages in departmental initiatives, fosters patient independence, adheres to attendance protocols, encourages social interaction, and advocates for patient quality of life while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and organizational standards. This position embodies the core values of the organization.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare examination rooms for patient visits and set up for allergy assessments each day.
  • Perform daily calibration of pulmonary function testing equipment.
  • Guide patients to treatment areas and ready them for consultations.
  • Assist physicians with skin tests and other medical procedures as directed.
  • Manage prescription requests, complete asthma management plans, and discharge documentation.
  • Document patient interactions and care in the electronic medical records system.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
  • Conduct pulmonary function tests, FeNO assessments, and peak flow monitoring.
  • Educate patients on medication usage and environmental management.
  • Prepare and provide nebulized treatments and necessary patient education.
  • Organize and maintain clinical areas and examination rooms with adequate supplies.
  • Monitor and restock samples and supplies as needed.
  • Conduct monthly checks on emergency medications and reorder when necessary.
  • Log refrigerator temperatures daily.
  • Complete triage tasks when scheduled.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for patient services.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and maintain accurate records of communications regarding medical care.
  • Assist patients in scheduling necessary appointments.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned or required.
  • Prepare patient information packets and educational materials.
  • Order necessary supplies following clinic protocols.
  • Ensure proper shutdown of equipment at the end of the day.
  • Transport supplies between locations as required.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and policies.
  • Effectively manage emergency situations and protocols.
  • Provide coverage for various clinical areas as needed.
  • Participate in the training of new staff members.
  • Collaborate with specialty pharmacies to manage prescriptions and inventory of biologics.

Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills, including fluency in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety guidelines, policies, and patient care documentation.
  • Education: Diploma in Nursing (LPN/RN) with an active nursing license.
  • 1-2 years of nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Experience in allergy and asthma care is advantageous.
  • Current CPR certification is mandatory.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include the ability to handle objects, reach, and communicate effectively. Staff may be required to stand or walk for the majority of their shift and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Specific vision and communication abilities are necessary for effective interaction with patients and staff.


Work Environment:

The work environment is typically moderate in noise level with standard lighting. Employees may encounter exposure to infectious materials and allergens.
