About the Role

The Director of Operations at Barnard College is a key position responsible for overseeing the daily functioning of the institution's physical campus. With 1.3 million square feet of space, this role requires strategic planning, problem-solving, and effective communication to ensure seamless operations. As a seasoned professional in facilities management, you will oversee the supervision of maintenance and trades staff, managing repair, renovation, and preventive maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and Coordinate Staff: Directly supervise two supervisors who oversee mechanical and building trade functions, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, locksmith, painting, masonry, carpentry, and general service mechanics.
  • Work Order Management: Ensure that work orders are efficiently assigned, executed, assessed, and closed out. Use technical tools and data to continuously improve the work-order process.
  • Client Service: Collaborate with Facilities' personnel to deliver exceptional client service, ensuring prompt responses and repairs.
  • Safety and Compliance: Routinely inspect ongoing work for conformance to codes, standards, and requirements. Develop an annual safety training program for Trades personnel.
  • Inventory Management: Control shops' inventories, issue specialized tools, and recommend purchases as needed.

Requirements

  • Education: Baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience in mechanical/structural trades and/or building construction.
  • Experience: Minimum five years of progressively complex facilities management experience, including supervision of facilities operations and repair/maintenance in various areas.
  • Skills: Problem-solving, leadership, excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to kneel, crawl, bend, stoop, push, pull, lift, and carry objects up to 50 lbs.

Estimated Salary Range: $95,000 - $100,000 annually. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. A cover letter should accompany your application.
