Job Summary

The Medical Assistant, under the medical direction of the Clinic Physicians and the general administrative direction of the Clinic Manager, is responsible for providing assistance to the Physicians and Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners through coordination of the patient's visit and performing designated procedures and patient care. The Medical Assistant also participates in quality and safety control and provides support service within Clinic when not providing patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Physicians and Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners with patient care and coordination of patient visits
  • Perform designated procedures and patient care tasks
  • Participate in quality and safety control initiatives
  • Provide support services within the Clinic
Requirements
  • Completion of nursing program or sufficient training and/or experience to maintain required licensure/certification/registration
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or Paramedic, EMT, RT, or other licensure recognized under CMS Meaningful Use standards
  • BLS Certification with a designation of either BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or Military Training Network
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct patient care experience in a Medical Office
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current practice standards that apply to clinical or medical assisting, including functions that support ambulatory family practice services
  • Knowledge of equipment commonly used in a family practice setting
  • Knowledge of medical record documentation and customer relations principles
  • Ability to perform tasks within scope of education and experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patient care providers and support staff to meet healthcare needs of patients
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and accept personal responsibility
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with all persons involved in delivery of healthcare services
  • Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions
  • Ability to administer injections
  • Ability to demonstrate positive customer relations behaviors in person and on the telephone and to present a professional image
  • Ability to use the telephone and to perform routine computer data entry functions
  • Ability to write legibly, see, hear, speak English, and read
