The K9 Security Specialist is tasked with ensuring a secure and safe atmosphere for all individuals within the facility, including patients, visitors, staff, and volunteers. This role encompasses active participation in security measures and providing psychological support to all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaboratively, the Specialist and K9 conduct regular patrols and inspections of the premises to foster a secure environment. They play a crucial role in security interventions and offer emotional reassurance to staff, patients, and visitors. The K9 initiative complements the organization's comprehensive violence prevention strategy, emphasizing both physical and mental safety for patients.
- Document and analyze K9 deployment reports concerning complaints, significant security events, and any unusual occurrences involving patients, staff, and visitors; ensure all documentation is submitted to security management by the end of the shift. Maintain precise records of all relevant security activities throughout each shift, including K9 training logs and monthly activities.
- Inspect vacant areas, escort individuals as necessary, and assist clinical personnel with patient room inspections (either through presence or detection capabilities of the K9). Provide command presence when managing disruptive individuals.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance consistently. Adhere to directives and maintain awareness of safe operational practices. Successfully complete required competencies during the probationary period and demonstrate proficiency in all mandated competencies annually.
- Support special assignments as needed. Serve as a role model and mentor for fellow security personnel. May assist the K9 Trainer in onboarding new K9 handlers.
- Oversee daily care of the K9, including feeding, exercising, grooming, medical attention, and maintaining cleanliness of the K9's living area. Ensure the K9 remains in peak physical condition through regular training and exercise, and maintain readiness for evaluations. Participate in public demonstrations as part of the K9 team.
- Perform all duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and professional benchmarks. Deliver exceptional service to all clients of Intermountain Healthcare by consistently embodying our core values and leadership behaviors.
- Compliance with Colorado Security Officer Licensing Requirements is mandatory where applicable upon hiring or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
- Certification from the National Police Canine Association for Training is required upon hiring or must be acquired within a designated period.
- A minimum of two years of experience in canine handling, security operations, or management of canine security teams.
- An associate degree in a relevant field.
- Certifications from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) or similar credentials are preferred.
- Three years of experience in managing healthcare security programs and leading security teams is preferred.
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each key responsibility effectively.
