We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Baker II to join our team at the University of Montana. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for leading the preparation and baking of a wide variety of breads, desserts, pastries, and other items in our Retail Operations Kitchen.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and supervise a team of student employees in the kitchen on all baking practices, food safety, and proper use of all kitchen and bakery equipment.
- Train and develop student employees to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Direct and supervise all bakery students and occasionally be responsible for the functional supervision of a classified staff employee.
- Ensure consistency, quality, and wholesomeness of all baked goods while following standardized recipes.
- Decorate and plate customized dessert items and cakes as needed for catering guests and special orders.
- Communicate daily with the Executive Pastry Chef regarding production orders and menus in the Retail Operations Kitchen.
- Order food, supplies, and produce needed by the Bakery and access CBORD correctly to print out all orders from UMD operating units.
- Management and supervisory experience in a foodservice environment.
- Experience with high-volume bakery production operations, equipment, and routine equipment maintenance.
- Experience working with college-age students as employees and effectively training employees new to the workforce.
- Experience with high-volume baking.
- Experience and expertise in dessert preparation, cake decorating, and baking bread, rolls, and specialty breads.
- Ability to follow standardized CBORD recipes.
- Management ServSafe Certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
- Experience in addressing personnel issues and dealing effectively with conflict.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills at a professional level.
- Professional management and supervisory experience in a high-volume bakery.
- Ability to drive delivery vehicles.
- Knowledge of bakery equipment and routine equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of and experience working with college-age students as employees and guests.
- Expert knowledge and experience with dessert preparation and cake decorating.
- Expert knowledge and experience with baking breads, rolls, and specialty breads.
- Knowledge and experience addressing personnel issues and dealing effectively with conflict.
