Job Summary

CODART is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Curatorial Associate to join our team. As a key member of the curatorial staff, you will provide support to the Curator in Charge and contribute to the care and interpretation of our collection of over 90,000 works on paper.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gallery Management: Manage rotations for the permanent collection galleries in consultation with senior staff.
  • Collection Care: Work with conservators and other staff to ensure the conservation and care of the Achenbach collection.
  • Research and Cataloging: Research and catalogue the collection and related archives.
  • Exhibition Support: Assist with and/or execute loan exhibitions and installations.
  • Exhibition Development: Propose and assist the development of exhibition concepts and of new and engaging ways of displaying the permanent collection and new acquisitions.
  • Exhibition Materials: Assist with and/or execute the preparation of catalogues, checklists, wall and gallery labels, and other exhibition graphics.
  • Public Engagement: Correspond with scholars or members of the public regarding objects in the collection.
  • Volunteer and Intern Management: Manage activities of volunteers and interns, as necessary.
  • Departmental Relationships: Build and maintain departmental relationships with critics, dealers, museum colleagues, institutions of higher learning, and collectors.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Art History or related field; Master's Degree in art history preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Specialized knowledge in the history and techniques of the graphic arts, including photography, is required.
  • Experience: Two years of curatorial experience or similar (such as curatorial fellowships).
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with museum collections software (TMS) preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Time Management: Adherence to deadlines.
  • Initiative: Strong follow through.
  • Flexibility: Flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.
  • Multi-Tasking: Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects in a highly demanding and fast-paced work environment.
