Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Dental Hygiene Specialist to join our team at Oneonta Job Corps Academy/Education and Training Resources. As a Dental Hygiene Specialist, you will assist the Dentist with direct primary care dental services to students, ensuring the highest level of oral health care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preliminary oral examinations for students
  • Examine, scale, and polish teeth
  • Educate students on good oral hygiene and provide other preventative dental care services
  • Monitor the condition of, and sterilize the dental equipment
  • Conduct the weekly Dental Education/Orientation Program for students in their first week of the Career Preparation Period
  • Schedule all new student intakes for their 45/75-day T2 Dental Exams
  • Conduct triage of sick calls and schedule off-center dental visits in the absence of the Dentist
  • Organize and facilitate monthly Student Wellness Committee Meetings

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated competence in the concepts, techniques, and procedures of Dental Hygiene
  • Capacity to interpret and carry out a variety of instructions/directions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form
  • Ability to provide direct patient care under the supervision of the Dentist
  • Ability to build rapport with patients
  • Meticulous record-keeping and strong organizational skills
  • Proficient using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

Education and Experience:

  • State Licensed/Certified Dental Hygienist
  • One-year work-related experience
  • Valid NYS Driver's License with an acceptable driving record

Working Conditions:

  • Campus and general office setting
  • Indoor and outdoor environment
  • May be subject to irregular work schedules
  • Driving a vehicle (car, bus, van) in variable weather and traffic conditions
