Job Summary:

The Hackensack Meridian Health team is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our NICU Neonatology team in a full-time capacity. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting, monitoring, and managing the day-to-day needs of patients under the supervision of a physician.

Responsibilities:

Obtain a detailed and accurate history, and identify problems and present information to the supervising physician.
Chart via written, dictation, or electronic means: admission notes, history and physical examinations, consultations, daily patient encounter notes, urgent evaluation notes, minor procedure notes, and brief post-operative notes as it pertains to patients in the inpatient or outpatient setting; present this information to the supervising physician.
Prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations under supervision of licensed physician if approved by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.
Assist a supervising surgeon in the operating room when a qualified assistant physician is not required, and a second assistant is deemed necessary by the supervising surgeon.
Assist supervising physician in a procedure room when a qualified physician is present and it is deemed that a qualified assistant physician is not needed.
Write post-operative/post procedure note(s) and order(s) for supervising physician.
Act as a first line person responsible for all the post procedure management of patients as requested by the primary physician.
Start IVs, insert foley catheters and nasogastric tubes, irrigate foley catheters, order transfusions of blood and products, venipuncture, and debriedments.
Exhibit organizational, communication and leadership skills, initiative, accountability, responsibility, appropriate judgment, and decision making.
Assist supervising physician with office hours and functions as an advocate for patients by managing prescription prior authorization, serving as a clinical expert to obtain surgical prior authorization requiring validation of medical necessity, and resolve issues associated with patient messages that require clinical support.
Participate in research trails collecting, aggregating and entering data.
Identify the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).
Function as a resource to health care personnel and participate in their educational programs.
Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Smiles, making patients/visitors feel welcome and important; makes direct eye contact; responds promptly to patients' needs.

Qualifications:

Physician Assistant Requirements: Successful completion of an approved physician's assistant program, accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education. Preference for prior experience in a NICU or a neonatal fellowship program.
Licenses and Certifications Required: Physician Assistant License, Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification required.
Nurse Practitioner Requirements: Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing, Master's Degree, maintains clinical competencies through participating in continuing educational programs (contact hours per years), and clinical practice as mandated by Board of Nursing and national certification body. Experience in relevant patient care setting or as regulations dictate.
Licenses and Certifications Required: NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License, Advanced Practice Nurse Certification (w/ Master's Degree), AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification, NNP certification.
