Agricultural Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Agricultural Specialist to join our team at the University of Georgia. As an Agricultural Specialist, you will assist in carrying out the goals of the Attapulgus Research and Education Center. You will work under the general supervision of the Farm Manager but are expected to demonstrate initiative in carrying out the duties of this position.
Key Responsibilities- Operate tillage, spraying, and harvesting equipment in a research farm setting.
- Perform minor mechanical, electrical, welding, and other repairs to equipment, barns, and irrigation equipment as well as routine janitorial upkeep.
- Maintain inventories of pesticides and other crop inputs.
- Assist in the layout and establishment of study areas according to prescribed protocols.
- Assist with study maintenance including mowing and alley upkeep, fertilizing and irrigating.
- Assist with taking data in research plots.
- Assist in sampling and preparing soil, water, and plant samples for testing and analysis.
- Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
- Bachelors' degree in an agriculturally-related field and 2 years of experience in farm management or a combination of education, training, and experience.
This position requires working outdoors under extreme heat and cold weather. You will be required to sit or stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, bend over repeatedly, climb on large agricultural equipment, and operate hand tools and farm machinery.
