Job Overview:
The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at UF Health Shands seeks a committed Registered Nurse I to become an integral part of our healthcare team.
In this position, you will provide patient care in accordance with RN License standards across diverse primary care teams and specialty clinics, which include Women's Health, Sports Medicine, Acute Care, Immunization Clinic, and Psychiatry.
Your duties will encompass administering treatments and procedures, triaging patients, conducting nurse visits, dispensing medications, and screening and advising patients. You will also be responsible for collecting and documenting vital signs, visual acuity, and point-of-care testing as directed by healthcare providers.
Furthermore, you will offer independent care to patients following established protocols and standing orders, while also supporting healthcare providers by coordinating clinical activities and collaborating with SHCC providers and Counseling and Wellness Center counselors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver RN coverage for various Primary Care and Specialty teams within Student Health.
- Coordinate prescription refills in collaboration with assigned clinic providers.
- Assist with medication Pre-Authorizations and manage patient inquiries regarding medications.
- Facilitate laboratory referrals and communicate results to providers.
- Maintain current knowledge of clinical nursing practices, including emergency procedures and equipment.
- Conduct nurse visits and ensure patient safety and care effectiveness.
- Monitor patient responses to treatments and administer medications as prescribed.
Clinical Duties and Patient Triage:
- Assess patients' vital signs and provide education on health maintenance and preventive care.
- Perform IV starts, wound care, and administer medications.
- Screen and counsel patients, collecting visual acuity when necessary.
- Facilitate timely patient flow to providers.
- Engage with specialized patient populations as needed.
- Triage a high volume of patients, ensuring prompt management of health concerns.
- Review intake records and medical histories to assess acuity and service needs.
- Collaborate with clinical providers regarding high-risk patients to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate effectively with patients to promote compliance with care plans.
Education, Counseling, and Referrals:
- Assist with referrals from various clinics and community services.
- Maintain contact with patients to confirm receipt of services.
- Contribute to departmental goals for achieving a non-discriminatory and multicultural environment.
- Educate and counsel patients on their medical conditions and promote health and wellness.
- Document all interventions in patients' health records.
Coordination of Services:
- Coordinate services within your team, consulting with SHCC providers and counseling staff.
- Participate in team meetings and quality improvement programs.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 hours/week. Flexibility in hours may be required based on operational needs.
Compensation:
The starting salary ranges from $28.00 to $31.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Florida Statutes.
- Current CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a BSN or ASN degree.
- Two years of relevant nursing experience.
- Proficient in electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.
- Skilled in patient triage and assessment.
