We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital, working in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). As a Nurse Specialist, you will provide high-quality care to patients with complex medical conditions, leveraging your expertise in trauma and gastrointestinal post-operative care.

This role requires experience in acute progressive care settings, managing foley catheters, surgical drains, surgical oncology, wound vacs, ostomy, ports and PICCs, TPN, and lipids. You will work closely with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care, adhering to floating requirements and participating in call schedules as needed.

The ideal candidate will have minimum of 2 years of experience in specialty required, with Level 1 trauma experience. Compact or State License is required at time of submission, along with ACLS, BLS, and Telemetry experience.

About the Job

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing heavy trauma and gastrointestinal post-operative patients in an acute progressive care unit
  • Providing post-operative care for trauma/general surgery patients, including abdominal surgeries
  • Handling medical equipment and procedures such as foley catheters, surgical drains, surgical oncology, wound vacs, ostomy, ports and PICCs, TPN, and lipids
  • Participating in a call schedule with response times required as specified
  • Assisting in the main Post Anesthesia Care Unit when needed
  • Completing orientation and annual speciality modules as part of training and development
