Job Summary

This position is located in Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, in the Visitor Services Management Division. The Recreation Fee Technician will perform various duties, including processing reservation arrivals and departures, collecting fees at park entrance stations, visitor centers, campgrounds, or other contact stations, and operating electronic cash registers, computers, tablets, and smartphones to conduct financial transactions.

Responsibilities
  • Process reservation arrivals and departures, ensuring accurate and timely collection of fees.
  • Collect fees at park entrance stations, visitor centers, campgrounds, or other contact stations, using electronic cash registers, computers, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Operate electronic cash registers, computers, tablets, and smartphones to conduct financial transactions, including processing payments and managing inventory.
  • Complete shift reports, verifying money collected, accountable stock sold, and other financial transactions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, including fee collections and inventory management.
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, answering questions and providing information about park recreational opportunities, including National Park Service interpretive services, wilderness/backcountry permits, concession-operated facilities and services, and campground availability.
  • Model high standards of professionalism, punctuality, dependability, cleanliness, honesty, trust, integrity, openness, empathy, and respect for coworkers and visitors on a daily basis.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
  • Must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, including activities such as handling, tracking, or depositing monies, using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data, performing fee collection, accounting, or financial duties, and/or using tools or equipment to make sales transactions.
Working Conditions

This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows, resulting in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
