Job Title: Developer Relations Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Developer Relations Engineer to join our team at Canonical. As a key member of our Developer Relations team, you will play a critical role in engaging with open source communities and developer-centric organizations to promote our vision and products for better open source development experiences.

About the Role

The Developer Relations Engineer will be a technical expert, strategist, and communicator with deep empathy for developers. This role combines practical engineering skills with firm diplomacy across organizational boundaries, in both directions. You will be a problem-solver and inventor, who understands people's needs and loves the way that tools can be adapted to meet them.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in team product meetings, contributing insight and expertise
  • Maintain conversations with developer community members across various platforms
  • Work with colleagues in other teams to establish commonality and consistent approaches
  • Help solve specific technical problems identified by users or colleagues
  • Contribute to technical documentation to ensure developer users' needs are met
  • Work on technical articles, presentations, or workshops
  • Identify new opportunities and directions for improvement in the developer experience
  • Present at conferences, meetups, or technical events
Requirements
  • Programming or development experience with a passion for open-source software
  • Hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (including Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
  • Understanding of current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem
  • Contributor to open-source communities, software, and documentation
  • Engaging speaker and presenter
  • Ability to work effectively in contexts with diverse perspectives, needs, and understanding
  • Willingness to travel globally twice a year for company events and upstream/partner events
