Job Title: Direct Support Professional

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team at The Arc Otsego. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in their daily lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and record progress toward established outcomes for the individuals.
  • Maintain regular communication with assigned individuals' family, Service Coordinator and/or residential program.
  • Assist participants to identify, form an array of options utilizing creative means of recording and documentation, how they want to spend their day.
  • Assist participants in the development of individual portfolios.
  • Assist participants in the scheduling and accessing of daily activities.
  • Accompany participants as they navigate a variety of community experiences.
  • Provide feedback and documentation of participant's response to their schedule and experiences.
  • Assist the participant in the expression of newly learned skills and experiences including practicing and/or rehearsing.
  • Prepare for and participate in regular planning meetings with ancillary agency and service personnel.
  • Attend regular staff meetings.
  • Participate and assist in all public presentations that may be in the evening or on weekends.
  • Provide transportation using agency vehicles.
  • Provide personal care for individuals as needed.
  • Share talent with individuals in structured groups and/or individualized learning opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college and experience working with adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write reports/correspondence and good communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar or line graphs.
  • Must be knowledgeable about Internet software, Microsoft Office components including Word, Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
