Job Description:

As an Operating Room Nurse at The University of Chicago Medicine, you will be part of a world-class academic healthcare system. You will work in Comer Children's Hospital Operating Room, providing nursing care to patients from neonate to geriatric population.

You will have the opportunity to work with physicians who are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward, conducting groundbreaking research and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care.

This is a 100% onsite opportunity, and you will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

As an Operating Room Nurse, you will be responsible for providing goal-directed nursing care that is adapted to the needs of an individual, a family, and/or community during health and illness.

You will work collaboratively with other health team members in providing a holistic approach to healthcare, communicating changes to all team members as appropriate.

Eligible for a $10,000.00 Sign-On Bonus

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Utilizes assessment skills to determine patient needs in order to provide comprehensive patient/family care for patients from neonate to geriatric population
  2. Identifies learning needs of patients and their family which directly influence patient recovery and develops teaching methods to enhance learning
  3. Implements nursing actions based on scheduled surgery, patient assessment, patient developmental needs, and incorporates actions into written plan of care
  4. Evaluates care given and allows for alterations in nursing interventions to meet the changing needs or conditions of the patient
  5. Documents appropriately in patient care records
  6. Successfully completes unit-based and hospital competencies as designated
  7. Competently performs nursing treatments and procedures according to hospital policy and nursing practice within clinical specialty as documented by the respective clinical rotational checklists
  8. Maintains current CPR certification
  9. Prepares and administers medication/treatment according to the physician's orders utilizing knowledge base to assure patient safety
  10. Works collaboratively with other health team members in providing a holistic approach to healthcare, communicating changes to all team members as appropriate
  11. Documents all aspects of patient care from admission to discharge according to hospital policies
  12. Incorporates discharge planning measures into daily practice in order to provide patients with smooth transition from hospital to home
  13. Provides cost-effective care by proper use of time, supplies, and personnel
  14. Actively participates in unit staff meeting
  15. Assists unit in development/attainment of unit goals and objectives
  16. Contributes to creating a work climate that encourages positive staff morale, motivation, and commitment for all who participate in the care of patients
  17. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by Clinical Director or designee
  18. Shares in leadership responsibilities at various levels by supervising, directing, and teaching other employees as it effects patient care
  19. Participates in unit activities/goals to promote retention of staff
  20. Participates in a changing environment by being supportive and cooperative with changes at the unit level
  21. Demonstrates reliability and accountability to the unit and Department of Nursing
  22. Incorporates professional standards into practice utilizing written nursing care plans
  23. Participates in Quality Improvement data analysis, conclusions, and changes determined
  24. Participates in the preceptor program either by being a preceptor or assisting in those who are
  25. Participates in weekly scheduled in-service
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred
  • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months
  • ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program
  • Current RN Illinois license
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
