As a vital member of a dedicated team of public servants, the Nurse III plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health and well-being of residents by performing on-site evaluations and inquiries in Texas long-term care environments, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities, to ensure adherence to state and federal regulations.
This role provides a competitive starting salary along with comprehensive state benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans, and involves regular travel to various facilities within a designated region.
This position is primarily field-based, requiring mobility and flexibility, with minimal office work.However, it necessitates the preparation of detailed reports outlining any deficiencies or violations identified, proposed corrective actions, and narratives supporting regulatory conclusions.
**Essential Responsibilities:**
Under the supervision of a program manager, the Nurse III conducts on-site licensure assessments, investigates complaints and incidents, and performs annual comprehensive evaluations in facilities to ensure compliance with federal and state health and safety standards in various areas, including:
- Admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Resident rights
- Staffing and census
- Quality of care and life assessments
- Resident care plans
- Provision of medical services
- Therapeutic activity programming
Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to provide, exchange, or verify information, address inquiries, or resolve issues related to Texas long-term care facilities.
Conducts exit meetings with facility personnel to discuss findings and may assist in formulating a plan to rectify deficiencies. Completes inspection or survey documentation detailing deficiencies, recommended corrective measures, and narratives supporting regulatory findings.
Revisits long-term care facilities to confirm the rectification of previously noted regulatory violations. Performs quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others, such as publications, assessments, and reports.
May supervise team members during inspections, offer technical assistance to facilities, and provide expertise to a survey team in the identified areas.
Occasionally may be required to testify at hearings or court proceedings to provide information regarding policies, procedures, findings, or activities.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
Comprehensive understanding of the issues, concerns, and needs of at-risk populations in various healthcare and institutional settings (e.g., elderly, mentally ill, developmentally disabled, functionally dependent, medically frail).
Knowledge of nursing principles and accepted professional standards of patient care.
Skills in interpersonal relations, quality assurance monitoring, program review, certification, survey, or investigations.
Ability to provide guidance, policy clarifications, and information to others, prepare detailed written reports, and communicate effectively in oral, written, and electronic formats.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize competing activities, collect and analyze data, and interpret regulatory policies and procedures.
Ability to work independently, utilize computer systems for report writing, exercise professional judgment, and make sound decisions while being organized and punctual.
