We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist I to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a Surgical Technologist I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms and providing exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Preoperative Preparation: Assist in the preparation of the operating room, including reviewing surgeon preference lists and conferring with circulating nurses to gather necessary equipment.
- Instrumentation and Equipment: Count and verify needles, sponges, and instruments; ensure medications on the sterile field are properly labeled; maintain fluids at a safe temperature; and clean and prepare instrumentation for use.
- Patient Care: Perform preoperative preparation of patients, including skin preparation, draping, and positioning; hand instruments to surgeons as requested; and assist with gowning and gloving of surgical team members.
- Room Turnover and Logistics: Perform room turnover between cases, escort patients as assigned, and transport patients and supplies as directed by RNs.
- Supply Management: Prepare supplies for sterilization, including washing and wrapping instruments.
- Environmental Monitoring: Assess the environmental needs of the area and recommend or initiate appropriate action.
- Training and Development: Orient new Surgical Technologists on department policies and procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will also need to be detail-oriented and able to maintain confidentiality in a healthcare setting.
