Job Summary

Polk County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a highly skilled Firefighter-EMT to join our team. As a Firefighter-EMT, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical services, firefighting, and rescue operations in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide medical assistance, firefighting, and rescue services
  • Operate and maintain fire department vehicles and equipment
  • Participate in training and drills to stay up-to-date on emergency medical procedures and firefighting techniques
  • Collaborate with other emergency responders to ensure effective response to emergencies
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure the upkeep of fire department property and equipment
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent
  • Valid Certificate of Compliance from the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal Uniform Fire Safety Rules and Standards Chapter 69A-37
  • Valid State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician License or State of Florida Paramedic License
  • Ability to lift heavy weights, climb stairs, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with frequent exposure to emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and the public
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical competencies such as Hazardous Materials, Confined Space, Vehicle Machinery Rescue, Rope Rescue, or other state-recognized certificates
  • Enrolled in paramedic school with a completion date within 12 months
  • Candidates who agree to enroll in paramedic training immediately upon hire
  • Candidates who have completed a two-year degree or higher
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with frequent exposure to emergency situations. The employee must be able to lift heavy weights, climb stairs, and work in confined spaces. The employee must also be able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and the public.
