The HVAC Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the operation and upkeep of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems throughout all Pacific Lutheran University facilities. This role includes conducting preventive maintenance on air intake and exhaust systems and reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Operate and maintain a variety of systems, including air conditioning units, chillers, gas furnaces, and heating systems.
  • Collaborate with the Preventive Maintenance team and Building Engineer.
  • Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and repairs on HVAC equipment.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for system repairs as needed.
  • Address temperature control issues and resolve routine operational problems.
  • Inspect and operate air-conditioning units to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain, repair, and test HVAC systems and related instruments.
  • Drain systems and perform necessary adjustments.
  • Execute other assigned tasks as required.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficient in heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
  • Basic knowledge of computerized control systems.
  • Skilled in the use of relevant tools and equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude for emergency and delicate repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Experience with soldering, brazing, and refrigerant systems.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and piping strategies.

**Required Qualifications:**

  • Minimum of three years of experience in HVAC systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • CFC Handlers Certification.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • Familiarity with fire underwriter's codes.
  • Understanding of computer systems used in HVAC operations.

**Work Environment:**

  • Varied working conditions with exposure to different environmental factors.
  • Work around heavy equipment and tools.
  • Occasional tasks in precarious locations and noisy settings.
  • On-call opportunities available with additional compensation.

**Physical Requirements:**

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, climbing, and lifting.
  • Good hearing and vision are essential.
  • Strength to lift and move heavy objects as needed.
