Role Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist I is responsible for applying a comprehensive understanding of laboratory techniques and methodologies to conduct a variety of tests. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining compliance with laboratory standards and regulations, ensuring the highest quality of service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct laboratory tests accurately and efficiently, adhering to established protocols and quality standards.
2. Oversee the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
3. Engage in problem-solving initiatives, utilizing advanced decision-making skills to address complex issues.
4. Maintain thorough knowledge of laboratory information systems and contribute to their effective use.
5. Assist in compliance efforts with regulatory bodies and accreditation agencies, ensuring all laboratory practices meet required standards.
6. Monitor test results for accuracy and validity, addressing any discrepancies promptly.
7. Participate in quality assurance activities, contributing to continuous improvement in laboratory operations.
8. Support inventory management and provide financial insights to enhance departmental efficiency.
9. Facilitate training and orientation for new staff, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to stand, walk, and perform manual tasks frequently. Candidates must be capable of lifting and moving equipment as necessary and must adhere to safety protocols to mitigate exposure to hazardous materials.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field.
2. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent is preferred.
3. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
4. Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
5. Proven capability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
