The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in the NICU/Pedi department. As a key member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs diagnostic tests, administers therapies, and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
- Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
- Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
- Assist with placement of artificial airways and initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
- Monitor patient for therapeutic response and notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
- Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients and respond to emergent patient situations.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of employment start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 30 days of employment start date.
- Neonate Resuscitation Program certification within 30 days of employment start date.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 30 days of employment start date.
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent.
- State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Licensed Respiratory Therapist (LRT) certification within 30 days of employment start date.
