GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Cafe at Kirkwood, located on the main campus, is part of a culinary team that also manages The Class Act Restaurant and organizes catering for The Hotel at Kirkwood. The Caf aims to provide fresh, high-quality ingredients and a diverse menu to students, staff, and visitors. The Catering Assistant collaborates with the catering coordinator to ensure a positive experience for all catering clients by managing delivery schedules, confirming orders, ensuring accurate billing, and setting up and serving food and beverages.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver prompt and courteous food and beverage service for the Caf Catering Department.
  • Engage positively with all customers, staff, students, and guests.
  • Organize and deliver items for Linn Hall and Coffee Shop Grab n Go.
  • Maintain an organized and clean inventory of supplies.
  • Assist the Caf Office Coordinator with opening duties.
  • Provide high standards of service during meal functions.
  • Support business needs in areas such as cashiering, barista, dish, and prep as required.
  • Assist with banquet and catering events at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Address customer concerns effectively and report them to the Catering Coordinator.
  • Support the Catering Coordinator in securing new business opportunities.
  • Assist in billing processes for all customers.
  • Plan and execute daily delivery schedules.
  • Participate in department meetings and pre-shift briefings.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all catering storage areas.
  • Complete required training as designated by the supervisor.
  • Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Foster an inclusive environment that values diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including health codes.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

The physical activities required for this position include:
  • Frequent (up to 2/3 of the time): standing, walking, using hands, reaching, talking, and tasting.
  • Frequent (up to 2/3 of the time): lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional (under 1/3 of the time): climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or sitting.
  • Occasional (under 1/3 of the time): using a telephone, computer screen, and registers.
The work environment is a kitchen setting, characterized by loud noises, various smells, and exposure to varying temperatures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Customer service skills and knowledge.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preference for candidates with a post-high school degree.
  • Preference for candidates with a valid Iowa driver's license.
  • Preference for candidates with at least two years of full-time experience in a related hospitality setting or equivalent education and experience.
