Position Overview:


Under general supervision and following established protocols, performs non-invasive vascular assessments to provide critical data utilized by healthcare professionals in diagnosing and managing arterial and venous conditions.

This role involves setting up diagnostic equipment, collecting relevant patient information, explaining procedures to patients, and operating specialized machinery. Monitors patients throughout the testing process and alerts supervising staff or physicians to any abnormalities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts patient interviews to gather and document essential personal and medical history, and performs physical assessments.


Measures blood pressure, evaluates peripheral pulses through manual palpation and Doppler techniques, and inspects the color, temperature, and overall condition of limbs.

Communicates test procedures to patients and/or their families to alleviate concerns and encourage cooperation. Guides and assists patients in preparing for examinations.


Determines optimal positioning of patients and equipment to achieve accurate diagnostic results, and assists in lifting and positioning patients as required.


Operates advanced diagnostic equipment such as ocular plethysmography, carotid phonoangiography, and pulse volume recording devices to perform non-invasive vascular assessments.

Observes patients during tests and promptly informs physicians or nursing staff of any irregularities.

Prepares test results for physician review and interpretation.

Makes minor adjustments to testing apparatus and reports significant malfunctions to supervisors.


Stays informed about current trends and methodologies in the field by engaging with relevant literature and attending educational seminars and conferences.

Fosters positive relationships and collaborative interactions. Approaches conflicts constructively, contributing to problem identification and resolution.

Ensures confidentiality of all patient, physician, employee, and visitor information in accordance with hospital policies. Discusses sensitive information only with authorized personnel in private settings.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Receives requests for procedures and coordinates patient testing by ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are prepared for the requested assessments.

Maintains equipment in optimal working condition and replenishes supplies as needed. Performs various clerical tasks such as answering calls, scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and preparing billing documentation.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires an Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or completion of an accredited ultrasound program. 6-12 months of relevant experience is preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Knowledge of physical sciences, including anatomy and physiology, typically acquired through completion of an accredited ultrasound or allied health program.

Approximately 3-6 months of on-the-job experience is necessary to achieve proficiency in vascular testing techniques and equipment operation, as well as to develop patient care skills.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with patients to alleviate fears and encourage cooperation, as well as for relaying patient information to physicians and nursing staff.

Analytical skills are required to position patients for optimal diagnostic results and to identify irregularities, notifying the appropriate personnel.

Ability to focus and pay close attention to detail for approximately 50% of work time when positioning patients, operating equipment, observing patient responses, and documenting patient information.

Ability to walk and stand for approximately 50% of work time while conducting tests, and to lift and position patients and equipment for about 10% of work time.
