Description:

Legal Aid of West Virginia is seeking a dedicated and skilled Staff Attorney to join our team in Martinsburg. As a Staff Attorney, you will provide high-quality legal advice, representation, and advocacy services to low-income clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal representation to clients in magistrate, family, and circuit court.
• Prepare legal documents, advise clients, and conduct research to formulate defenses or initiate legal action.
• Maintain accurate and complete files or records.
• Participate in substantive task forces focused on issues impacting our clients, such as DHHR Benefits, Family Law, and Housing.
• Occasional night and weekend work hours; some local and out-of-town travel.

Requirements:

• Demonstrable commitment to understanding and addressing issues of low-income constituents.
• J.D. and admission to practice in West Virginia and in good standing or eligibility for admission to the West Virginia Bar.
• Skills to use office technologies, including learning LAWV case management software.
• Ability to balance administrative and client advocacy responsibilities.

Benefits:

• Annual starting salary range of $53,000 - $61,400.
