About the Role: We are looking for a highly skilled state tax counsel to join our tax legal team. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of state and local tax laws and regulations, as well as excellent analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Audit defense: Defend Verizon against state tax audits and develop strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
  • State tax litigation: Lead Verizon's state tax litigation practice, including representing the company in appeals, tax court, and other judicial proceedings.
  • ASC 740 and FAS 5 support: Collaborate with Verizon's tax accounting team to assess potential ASC 740 (FIN 48) and ASC 450 (FAS 5) state and local exposures.
  • Dispute resolution: Work with business segments to resolve customer tax disputes and ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations.

Benefits: Verizon offers a competitive salary range of $180,000 - $220,000 per year, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
